AGREEMENT made the thirty first day of May One thousand nine
hundred and twenty one BETWEEN THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
acting for and on behalf of the Government of Hongkong (herein-
after called the Government) of the one part and JOHN WATTIE
Kony
of Hong, aforesaid (hereinafter called the person engaged)
Mercantile Assistant of the other part.
WHEREBY it is agreed by and between the parties hereto as followE
1.
The person engaged is hereby selected for appointment on the
terms and conditions hereinafter set forth to be an Office
Assistant in the Public Works Department of Hongkong.
2. The person engaged shall perform the duties of the appoint-
ment for a period of three years commencing from the first day
of June, 1921, which period may be extended as provided in
Clause 10.
3. The duties of the person engaged shall include the usual
duties of the appointment as well as any other suitable duties
which the Government may call upon him to perform.
4. The person engaged shall during the time he shall continue in
the service of the Government reside in such place and occupy himself in such manner as the Government through its duly
authorized officers shall direct and he shall not directly or
indirectly engage or be cacerned in any other service or businesE
whatsoever or receive commissions or profits of any kind but shal
devote the whole of his time and attention to the service of the
Government and he shall use his utmost exertions to promote the
interests of the Government,
5. The Government shall pay the person engaged during the continuance of his services salary at the rate of Four Hundred pounds (2400) per annum, rising by annual increments of Twenty pounds (220) and a rent allowance in accordance with the Government Regulations in respect thereof. Increments however
